This instructor guide and the corresponding student reference contain five lessons about animal science for inclusion in Vocational Instructional Management System (VIMS) agricultural education courses. The lessons cover these topics: the monogastric digestive system, the ruminant digestive system, the importance of meeting nutritional needs, how to meet nutritional needs, and balancing a ration. The instructor's guide contains the following: objectives, competencies, motivational techniques, teaching procedures, other activities, activity sheets, transparency masters, evaluations, answers to evaluations and activity sheets, 20 references and teaching aids, materials and equipment lists, and a student competency profile. Four appendixes contain excerpts from university extension guides for nutrition requirements for beef and swine, and from feed composition tables. The student reference consists of information sheets and illustrations for the lessons. (KC)
