Wisconsin Partnership for 21st Century Skills--Library Media Specialists Making an Impact
Smith, Annette R.
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v25 n4 p27-29 Dec 2008
Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) is a comprehensive plan sponsored by thirty-one organizations and businesses. Involved are organizations such as Apple, Microsoft, Dell, and Verizon, to name a few, and such organizations as the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the American Association of School Librarians. The purpose of this initiative is to move students more effectively into the 21st century. This article features a personal interview with Dr. Paul Sandrock, Director of the Content and Learning Team for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, about the work being done to facilitate P21 in Wisconsin along with the American Diploma Project. Sandrock specifically discusses P21 activities and priorities for Wisconsin, the third state to join the Partnership. In addition to the interview with Sandrock, the role of library and technology professionals who are participating in P21 in Wisconsin and other states is highlighted. Involvement at local, state, and national levels by these professionals is a key to the successful implementation of the P21 initiative. (Contains 4 resources.)
