Advanced Placement Course Description: Government and Politics, American Comparative: May 1987-May 1988.
College Entrance Examination Board, Princeton, NJ.
The Advanced Placement Program is based on the premise that young people can complete college-level studies while in secondary schools. It is an instrument of cooperation that extends the educational opportunities available to students by giving secondary school college-level courses appropriate college credit and placement. Advanced Placement serves three groups: (1) students who wish to pursue college-level studies while still in secondary school; (2) schools that desire to offer these opportunities; and (3) colleges that wish to encourage and recognize such achievement. The book provides practical descriptions of college-level courses and the results of examinations based on these descriptions for entrance to colleges of the student's choice. Participating colleges may grant credit and appropriate placement to students who have done well on the examination. Course descriptions and examinations for American Government and Comparative Government college equivalent courses are included. These are followed by a summary outline of the major content areas covered by these examinations, a listing of skills and abilities, sample multiple choice questions and answers, and sample essay questions. Also included is a list of college board regional offices, a list of colleges expecting to use Advanced Plaement grades, examination dates, and an annotated list of Advanced Placement publications.
