Teaching Millennial Students
Nikirk, Martin
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v77 n9 p41-44 May 2012
The "Millennial Generation" includes students enrolled in primary grades through high school. These students are also known as Digital Natives, Generation Why, the Net Generation, Generation Me, and i-Kids. The generation includes ages ranging from approximately 7 to 30. This is the generation who have always had technology integrated into their lives--they are connected 24/7. Their experience contrasts greatly with that of adults aged 35 and older, for whom technology is typically an add-on to life. The brains of Millennial students are wired differently--a fact that is important to be aware of and to address. This article presents 10 teaching strategies that will help teachers address their Millennial students' "brain connections." (Contains 1 figure.)
