Evaluating Intervention Programs: Applications from Women's Programs in Math and Science.
Davis, Barbara Gross; Humphreys, Sheila
This four-part book shows how teachers, counselors, directors, and administrators can assess and evaluate their mathematics and science programs. The examples provided are drawn primarily from programs for women, but the methodology is generalizable to interventions for various populations. The two chapters in part I give an overview of the rationale for evaluations and their design. The 10 chapters in part II explain the basic tools for gathering information (questionnaires, interviews, observations, tests) and also how to analyze the information gathered, how to present the information to those who can use it, and how to determine what the evaluation will cost. The six chapters in part III deal with evaluation strategies tailored to five different kinds of intervention programs (science career conferences, products and exhibits, internship programs, courses and curricula, and teacher education programs). Part IV contains these resources: a glossary of evaluation terms; resource lists of instruments; resource persons for various programs and projects; and an annotated bibliography. (JN)
