This paper presents a humanistic interpretation of behaviorally oriented programs that attempt to help school personnel increase the effectiveness of the approach. Far from being dehumanizing and mechanical, behaviorally oriented approaches can provide the groundwork for developing in each pupil a sense of individual worth and personal responsibility. (MS)
