Teachable Moments: Anticipating and Capitalising on Mathematical Opportunities

This article provides examples of teachable moments that are based on mathematical teaching episodes that the authors have either taught or observed, followed by discussions on how teachers might respond to these moments. It is hoped that this article may act as a stimulus for collaborative professional conversations as to whether or not teachable moments can actually be anticipated, and, when they do occur, how they can be recognised and capitalised upon to enhance students' learning.
