A Qualitative Study on the Obstacles Preventing the Successful Implementation of Web 2.0 in Corporate Learning
Estrada, Luis
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
The purpose of this study was to identify the obstacles to the adoption of Web 2.0 technologies as part of corporate learning solutions and strategies. The study followed a qualitative inquiry approach. The sample consisted of 20 corporate learning professionals who are members of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) social networking pages. The study used semi-structured interviews to identify the learning professionals' perception of the phenomenon. The results showed that organizations considering the use of Web 2.0 technologies in support of corporate learning need to understand the obstacles of stakeholders not recognizing the value of social media in learning, learning professionals lacking expertise in designing and moderating these learning environments, concerns of control over content generation, the perception of learners' readiness to embrace these environments, the threats to enterprise information assets, and the resources required to support Web 2.0 learning solutions.
