The Matching of Educational and Occupational Structures in Finland and Sweden. Final Report. CEDEFOP Dossier.
Ahola, Sakari
This report studies the matching of educational and occupational structures in Sweden and Finland by using classifications that include all educational and occupational groups. By using comprehensive databases available in Finland and Sweden, it aims to develop the methodological and theoretical perspectives of the research on education and occupations to gain a clearer understanding of the matching of education and occupations and of the factors accounting for the differences between the occupational profiles of similar educational programs. Parts 1 and 2 discuss some basic aspects of the underlying school-to-work transition problem and the matching framework. Part 3 describes the data sets and the basic classifications used in the occupational profile analysis. Part 4 provides basic information on the features of Swedish and Finnish educational and occupational structures and the changes during the 1980s. Part 5 on tertiary education and Part 6 on secondary education summarize the key findings of the analysis of occupational profiles applying the similarity and domain indexes to the 1990 data sets. Part 7 presents the analysis of age differences and changes in time. Part 8 presents an experimental matching analysis. Part 9 offers conclusions. Appendixes contain 39 references, educational and occupational classifications, and similarity and domain indexes. (YLB)
