Teacher Appraisal and Mathematics: An Inservice Designed for the Texas Teacher Appraisal System.

To provide for the reawakening of students' interest in careers involving science and mathematics, motivation must be fostered within the lower elementary grades through competent mathematics instruction within well-designed school mathematics programs. The focus of this workshop was both on the efficient and effective implementation, within individual classrooms, of the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards as promulgated by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and on the prospective relationship of those standards toward classroom evaluation instruments mandated for use by the Texas Teacher Appraisal System (TTAS). This document contains the transcription of an audiotape of a 3-day inservice teacher workshop presentation, along with all of the workshop handouts and copies of the transparencies used by the presenters during the workshop, as designed and conducted by the TTAS.
