Guidelines for the Organization of Short Courses and Workshops on the Dissemination of Data in Science and Technology.
Watson, David G.
This document presents guidelines on the organization of short courses and workshops on the dissemination of data in science and technology. Such courses can be either of a "stand-alone" nature or they can constitute scientific data components of more general courses in information science. These courses are intended for documentalists, information officers, and librarians who deal with scientific and technological information, as well as scientific research workers. The guidelines have been prepared for the teachers and organizers of such courses. Four major themes are considered: (1) curriculum design; (2) instructional methods; (3) planning and administration; and (4) course evaluation. An extensive bibliography of course curriculum topics is included, and it is suggested that, with appropriate updating, the complete listing or selected portions of it might usefully be made available to the students of these courses. Four appendices contain the aforementioned 38-page bibliography; a directory of data sources for 12 branches of science and technology; an inventory of data sources on seven topics; and a listing of eight guides for the presentation of data.
