The paper examines research on the education of gifted students. Studies are cited and conclusions drawn for 10 topic areas: (1) identification (methods, recommended commercial tests, sex differences, emotional differences); (2) rationale for special provisions; (3) talent loss (dropping out and educational deprivation); (4) needed personnel (teacher competencies); (5) underachievement (potential behavioral indications); (6) cultural diversity (cultural bias of intelligence tests, culturally-supported attitudes and attributes); (7) ability grouping (magnet schools, multi-age classrooms, pullout programs, summer institutes); (8) acceleration (early kindergarten admission, grade and subject skipping, mentorship); (9) enrichment (teaching models); and (10) program evaluation (administration, staff development and teacher support).
