An Evaluation of the Educationally Disadvantaged Students' Performance in the Biology 101 Multi-media Approach at Polk Community College.
MacQueen, Peggy
To determine whether the educationally disadvantaged student could achieve academic success in Polk Community College's multimedia Biology 101 course, 44 students whose stanine scores were between one and four on the Florida Twelfth Grade Performance Test were studied. Academic success was defined as receiving a grade of C or above in the course. The study covered three terms. The results of the study showed that 20 of the disadvantaged students were able to pass the multimedia course; none of the 20 students made B or above grades. It is concluded that the multimedia approach to teaching college biology was successful in improving grades and allowing students to earn credit who previously would have been placed in noncredit courses.
