The small-group process is discussed in relation to its use as a teaching method; the objections to and advantages of small groups are enumerated, and numerous group interaction diagrams are listed. Also, various exercises and guidelines for successful group application are presented. Groups listed are the open-discussion group, the tutorial group, the assigned-roles group, the research group, the task flexibility group, the investigative group, the heuristic mode, the group talk model, the brainstorming group, the socratic-analysis group, the value-clarifying group, and the colloquium. A small group bibliography is included. (JB)
