Developmental Economic Education Program Handbook for Curriculum Change/Guidelines.
Symmes, S. Stowell
This pamphlet blueprints a step-by-step process of curriculum change, while it is not a pendantic discussion of the process. It also reflects a philosophy of change. It is meant to do two things: 1) to specify the kinds of decisions that must be made to achieve meaningful change; and, 2) to provide acceptable tools to carry out the tasks. Section one is a six-chapter guide to the Cooperating Schools Program within the Developmental Economic Education Program (DEEP). Chapter 1 presents a brief history of DEEP and suggests a systems approach to curriculum change. Chapter 2 contains a framework for writing a detailed plan of action, and develops the critical tasks which must be accomplished prior to actually mobilizing resources. Chapters 3 through 6 include ideas on how to develop effective committees, communication, inservice programs, materials development, and evaluation. Sources for obtaining resources needed for implementation are also suggested. Section two, under separate cover, contains six loose-leaf appendices each serving to supply resources for each chapter. Included there are: sample forms, selected readings, lists of organizations, selected curriculum bulletins, annotated bibliographies, sample teacher training programs, sample tests, and other information for programing change. Useful new material will be added to the handbook as it becomes available. (Author/SBE)
