The Status of Academic Women.
Robinson, Lora H.
This report on the status of academic women is divided into 3 parts. Section 1 presents a review of 4 major research studies that collectively provide a comprehensive description of academic women. The studies are: "Academic Women," by Jesse Barnard, "The Woman Doctorate in America," by Helen Astin, "Women and the Doctorate," by Susan Mitchell, and "Women as College Teachers," by Jean Henderson. The specific criteria most frequently used by investigators to assess the status of academic women are also discussed. Section 2 consists of 54 annotated campus reports that cover employment conditions for women at 65 institutions of higher education. The third section describes 25 projects covering the establishment of committees, task forces, and study groups by professional associations specifically to collect and disseminate information on employment conditions for women at various institutions and within specialized fields.
