A program to develop the use of time-sharing remote computer terminals in academic and laboratory courses was instituted in the engineering department at the United States Naval Academy. The first step in the program was the orientation and familiarization of faculty members with time-sharing concepts and the BASIC computer language. Computer programs were then developed which can be categorized under the general headings of: quiz, data reduction, tutorial, classroom demonstration, design calculations, solutions to case problems, and student/faculty research projects. This constituted the preliminary phase of the program and allowed the feasibility of the program to be evaluated.
