Child-Rearing Antecedents of Intergenerational Relations in Young Adulthood: A Prospective Study.
Belsky, Jay; Jaffee, Sara; Hsieh, Kuang-Hua; Silva, Phil A.
Developmental Psychology, v37 n6 p801-13 Nov 2001
Used data on parenting and family climate gathered six times during childhood and adolescence to predict intergenerational relations between young adult children and parents. Found that more supportive family environments and child-rearing experiences forecasted more positive parent-child relationships in young adulthood. Effects of unsupportive environments in one developmental period could be offset by supportive environments in remaining developmental periods. (Author/KB)
