Responses of male and female managers were analyzed for differences existing in perceptions of self-competence and differences in their evaluations of the competence of women managers generally. Findings suggest female managers see themselves as competent but see female managers in general as being less competent. (Author/RC)

Found female personal characteristics and work environment had little negative impact on initial movement of women into management or their promotion. Suggests agency selection and recruitment practices may have a negative impact on promotion of women. (Author/RC)

Analyzed responses of male and female managers indicating that direct contact with women supervisors may dispel traditional female role stereotypes and beliefs about women not being career-oriented. Generalizability of findings is limited to fields with a large number of female administrators. Research in other fields is suggested. (JAC)
