Directory of Public Elementary and Secondary Education Agencies, 1998-99.

This directory provides a listing of local public-school systems and other education agencies for 1998-99. Information is provided from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the U.S. Department of Defense (its dependent schools overseas). The directory has up to 12 items of information per agency: state, name of agency, mailing address, telephone number, name of county, metropolis status code, grade span, total student membership, number of regular high school graduates (1997-98 school year), number of students with an individualized education program, number of teachers, and number of schools. Seven different types of agencies are listed: regular school districts, supervisory union components, supervisory union administrative centers, regional educational service agencies, state-operated agencies, federally operated agencies, and other agencies. A glossary of abbreviations is provided in the introductory part of the directory along with six tables summarizing directory contents. Appendices include state education agency addresses, and sample survey documents for the public elementary and secondary education agency universe and the public elementary/secondary school universe.
