This publication is a safety handbook designed for science teachers of elementary and secondary schools. In an effort to insure prevention of accidents in school laboratories, it advocates careful planning, adequate experimental design, and the acquisition of correct laboratory techinques on the part of the teacher. The handbook gives instructions to be followed in case of emergencies, and recommendations for safety in school laboratories and workshops. It also explains a number of safety issues that deal with biological sciences, lists precautions against the outbreak of fire, and discusses a few measures for first aid treatment. The book includes a special section on the teacher and the law, and a selected bibliography. The appendix contains a comprehensive list of the major hazards in laboratory safety to serve as a source of reference for teachers and students. (GA)
