Student Teachers in Tibet: A Case Study.

Compared Tibetan student teachers' characteristics and attitudes to those of their mainstream Chinese counterparts. Surveys, interviews, observations, and document reviews revealed both similarities and differences. Tibetan student teachers tended to be middle class males, choose teaching for intrinsic reasons, and hesitate to commit themselves to teaching because of low status, poor pay, and difficulty marrying and establishing a home.
