The Influence of Minority Group Cultural Models on Persistence in College
Jenkins, Adelbert H.; Harburg, Ernest; Weissberg, Norman C.; Donnelly, Thomas
Journal of Negro Education, v73 n1 p69-80 Win 2004
The performance and attrition levels of two sets of African American college students were analyzed to understand the influence of minority groups in persisting with college as a test of Ogbu's cultural-ecological model. It was observed that voluntary immigrant group students stayed in college much longer than the involuntary immigrants group students and their performance levels were higher and predictable.
