To determine the effectiveness of the Astor Program, an early intervention program for children aged 4 years and above who show unusual evidence of academic ability, 28 Astor children and 24 control children equally qualified as gifted were compared. The children were tested with the Stanford-Binet Test, the Goodenough Draw-a-Man Test, and the Wide Range Reading and Arithmetic Test. They were interviewed for their perceptions concerning school, home, peer relationships, cultural resources, and self. Parents were interviewed concerning their children's development and behavior in school, at home, and in the neighborhood. Parents also completed a rating form on personal traits and characteristics of their children. In general, there appeared to be more similarities than differences between Astor and nonAstor program children. (Author/SBH)
