The annotated bibliography describes 85 materials related to terrorism which were collected by the National Criminal Reference Service. Although no consensus exists on the definition of terrorism, the term is interpreted in this document to include both illegal and destructive acts against society and governments and violent means undertaken to achieve an idealistic goal or to arouse positive public opinion. Materials are organized in the following categories: (1) concepts of violence; (2) terrorist philosophy and motivation; (3) prevention and response strategies; (4) terrorist trends; (5) legal ramifications; and (6) reference documentation. The appendix presents a directory of sources and a subject index and entry numbers.
