The Management Information System (MIS) of the Washington State system of community colleges was designed to be responsive to legislative and district requests for information and to enhance the State Board's capabilities to manage the community college system and integrate its budgeting and planning processes. The MIS consists of seven information files: (1) student enrollment--containing demographic information and enrollment data by course; (2) course effort report--containing information on course credit hours, instructor contact hours, student enrollment per section, instructor in each section, time and location, and funding; (3) facility inventory--providing evaluation of space needs on each campus and summarizing building and room uses and characteristics; (4) occupational program effort--summarizing students, faculty effort, and outputs related to occupational programs; (5) professional personnel--providing demographic, salary, and workload data for all administrators and faculty members; (6) classified personnel--providing the same information for all classified employees; and (7) equipment inventory--maintaining a record of all equipment leased or owned by the colleges. The report contains brief descriptions of the files which include a history and a list of the data elements in each. In addition, a data element dictionary is included which lists the data elements first in alphabetical order and then by data element number. Appendices are included. (MB)
