Information Technology: A View from Both Side of the President's Desk
McRobbie, Michael A.
EDUCAUSE Review, v47 n1 Jan-Feb 2012
As a university president who was also the institution's vice president for information technology and CIO for ten years, the author is often asked: "What do you now think about technology? From your point of view as a president, what are the major issues in information technology today? What has changed in your thinking?" So in his fifth year as president of Indiana University, the author talks about what is important to him regarding information technology in higher education. In this article, he focuses on three areas: (1) the mission of a university or college; (2) the funding challenges of institutions; and (3) the centralization and commoditization of information technology.
