An Analysis of the Relationship between Professional Development, School Leadership, Technology Infrastructure, and Technology Use

This dissertation study investigates the relationship between professional development, school leadership, technology infrastructure and technology use. Three research questions were developed. The first examines the relationship between professional development and technology use, the second examines the relationship between school leadership and technology use, and the third looks at the relationship between technology infrastructure and technology use. Data from the 2013--2014 School Technology and Readiness (STaR) chart were used to examine each of the relationships. A chi square test of independence was conducted with data from 7,557 elementary, junior high, high school, and charter schools in Texas. Results indicated statistically significant relationships existed between all variables, but the relationship between professional development and technology use was the strongest. The relationship between technology infrastructure and technology use was the weakest of the three relationships. Findings were consistent with previous research, suggesting that professional development, school leadership, and technology infrastructure are all necessary to increase technology use in the classroom.
