This booklet focuses on the Kansas City (Missouri) Chiefs professional football team and is designed to teach geography through the use of newspapers. In Section 1, "The Local Scene," the instructional activities help students to learn about the Kansas City metropolitan area through collecting news stories and advertisements. Section 2, "The Chiefs Opponents," lists 12 other National Football League (NFL) teams and outlines activities that use the newspaper to locate the weather and other items of interest about the metropolitan areas where the teams reside. The final section entitled "Special Projects" gives three bulletin board ideas for tracing the Chiefs' travels throughout the football season, collecting sports cartoons, and gathering information on the other teams. Another project suggests that the students send for the hometown newspapers of other teams to compare sports stories about the games played between the teams and the Chiefs and to review other features within the newspapers. A list of the addresses for all of the NFL city newspapers is included. (DJC)
