Portraits of the Postmodern Person in "Taxi Driver,""Raging Bull," and "The King of Comedy."
Mortimer, Barbara
Journal of Film and Video, v49 n1-2 p28-38 Spr-Sum 1997
Argues that a postmodern theory of identity (i.e., the subject as coherent, integrated, discoverable self is a fiction of modernity) links Martin Scorsese's major films. Examines "Taxi Driver,""Raging Bull," and "King of Comedy." Concludes that these films articulate a major cultural shift and chronicle a distinctively masculine identity crisis, linked to women's presumed "self-possession." (PA)
