Results from a national assessment of science conducted by the Minnesota Science Assessment and Research Project in 1981-82 are presented. The achievement of 13- and 17-year-olds on biology items, their attitudes about science and science classes, and comparisons with data from 1976-77 are discussed. (MNS)

National assessment data on student performance in several phases of algebra are reported. It is noted that this performance has not reached the point of mastery even for most students with two years of algebra and a year of geometry. However, the data are not thought to suggest complete failure. (MP)

Described is a study which was designed to investigate the effects of two evaluation methods on the learning process in mathematics courses. States that in one method students were given daily tests; the second method relied on weekly tests. No significant differences were noted; however certain trends were apparent. (RT)
