Using Kentucky State Standards as Benchmarks: Quantifying Incoming Ed.S. Students' Knowledge as They Journey toward Principalship
Hearn, Jessica E.
Planning and Changing, v46 n1-2 p92-108 2015
Principal preparation programs in Kentucky can use the items in the Dispositions, Dimensions, and Functions for School Leaders (EPSB, 2008) as mastery benchmarks to quantify incoming Educational Specialist (Ed.S) students' perceived level of mastery. This can serve both internal and external purposes by providing diagnostic feedback to students and faculty, satisfying external accountability requirements and, ultimately, showing value added from the program. This paper describes the process of adapting state mandated measures into a self-assessment survey and the first-year results.
