Training Undergraduates as Peer Instructors
Lahme, Brigitte; Robinson, Maria
PRIMUS, v14 n2 p127-140 2004
Large lecture classes can often be quite impersonal. Creating a teaching team, consisting of the instructor, graduate assistants, and a few undergraduates, is one of the ways the University of Arizona has adopted in order to make the large lecture class more personal. As members of the Department of Mathematics we train the undergraduates, who are part of the teaching team, in ways to help their peers. Here we share the background of the program established at the University of Arizona and the particulars about the training of undergraduates to help their peers in mathematics.
