Pandit, Mukta; Ezzeddine, Ibtissam
National Charter School Resource Center
While urban charter schools are achieving impressive gains, can charter schools improve outcomes for rural America? This topic is an important one with more than 11 million students attending rural schools and facing lower college enrollment than their urban peers. The National Charter School Resource Center (NCSRC) presents "Harvesting Success: Charter Schools in Rural America." This paper is intended for use by both rural charter schools and networks looking to expand into rural areas. This report highlights: (1) Challenges faced by rural charter schools -- including barriers in human capital, transportation, and facilities; and (2) Emerging solutions and approaches from charter schools -- addressing each of the challenges presented.
