Leadership and Research in Education, v7 n1 p11-36 2022
This study informs the field of education of the importance of providing a wide variety of extracurricular activities for students and its effect on students' community leadership development. Data were collected from college students (N = 705) and analyzed using quantitative methodology. Results indicate that high involvement level students indicated relatively high citizenship in leadership outcomes. Also, students' self-perception of leadership skills was the most significant predictor of community values of leadership development outcomes. This study highlights the need for higher education institutions to encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities involving groups to enhance community leadership that advances positive social change.
