The Construction of Paradox and the Teacher Union's Role in Complex Change.
Poole, Wendy L.
Journal of School Leadership, v7 n5 p480-505 Sep 1997
Teacher union leaders face an apparent paradox between dual interests--teachers' educational interests and self-interests. This case study of a small New York school district demonstrates how union members and leaders constructed the dualities differently and how these constructions influenced their behavior. The paradox-construction perspective may further understanding of union behavior and union-management relationships. (16 references) (MLH)
