The Priorities of Elementary and Secondary Principals for the Criteria Used in the Teacher Selection Process.
Place, A. William; Drake, Thelbert L.
Journal of School Leadership, v4 n1 p87-93 Jan 1994
Summarizes a study showing that a group of midwestern elementary and secondary principals had similar priorities for selecting teachers, regardless of the desired position level. Higher selection priorities (enthusiasm for teaching, communication skills, and interviewer's evaluation) were preferred over lower priorities (reference information, grade point average, and stated professional goals). More research is needed to clarify criteria use. (MLH)
