Academic Program Assessment: A New Expertise for Faculty to Develop
Blumberg, Phyllis
Journal of Faculty Development, v31 n3 p31-37 Sep 2017
Faculty are assuming greater responsibility for assessment of educational programs, which may be a new and daunting role. Therefore, faculty need to develop expertise and skills to do these assessments meaningfully. The overall purpose of this article is to provide faculty a program assessment resource. Assessments are conducted for accountability within the academic institution and to document developments in academic programs and administrative programming. This process can also be used to make improvements in the educational programs. This article describes a literature-based, practical assessment framework that can foster significant changes. When faculty use this framework, they will be able to conduct manageable assessments of educational programs and operational units.
