Understanding Diversity and the Teacher's Role in Supporting Learning in Diverse Classrooms: Scaffolding Early Childhood Preservice Teacher's Growth in Initial Placements with Technology
Solvie, Pamela A.
Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia, v22 n3 p317-361 Jul 2013
This research project sought to examine the ways in which early childhood preservice teachers develop an understanding of diversity and the teacher's role in supporting learning in diverse classrooms. Preservice teachers in their initial foundations course and in their initial placements in early childhood settings were participants in the study. The course management tool, Moodle, was used as a scaffolding tool to support preservice teachers in considering their own cultural backgrounds, the diversity represented in classrooms, and their beliefs concerning efficacy as teachers in supporting student learning in diverse classrooms. In year two of the study, Voice Thread was added as an additional scaffolding tool. Pre and post survey data and reflection journals served as data sources in this research study.
