Referential Style at Thirteen Months: Why Age-Defined Cross-Sectional Measures Are Inappropriate for the Study of Strategy Differences in Early Language Development.
Pine, Julian M; Lieven, Elena V. M.
Journal of Child Language, v17 n3 p625-31 Oct 1990
Examines the relationship between cross-sectional measures of referential style and measures based on the first 50 words in 12 first-born children. Because no relationship was found, it is argued that age-defined cross-sectional measures confound strategy differences in early language development with variation resulting from differences in development level.
