Evaluated difference in level of alienation between Nigerian secondary school students who were drug users (N=97) or non-users (N=119). Results supported hypothesis that the alienated personality would be more susceptible to drug abuse than other personality types. Results suggest need for efforts to reduce student alienation. Compared attitudes toward alcoholism in 120 urban secondary school teachers and 105 rural secondary school teachers in Benin District, Nigeria. Only a third of students in this study accepted the medical model of alcoholism. Those who had the least knowledge of, and experience with, alcohol were the most likely to consider alcoholism as an illness. Examined failure to graduate from high school as a function of grade point average and substance abuse among Phildelphia high school students (N=427). Results of multiple regression analyses indicated that the gradepoint averages are more powerful predictors to eventual failure to graduate than are "Drug Severity Index" scores. (BL)
