This study provides information about the cross-time stability of the Elementary Form of the Estes Attitude Scales and provides additional evidence for the criterion-related validity of these scales. To meet these objectives, children in grades three and four were administered the Estes scales for three successive years. (LMO)

Evidence regarding the factorial validity of the Educational Attitudes Inventory (EAI) is presented, as well as information concerning the intercorrelations of resulting factor scales and split-half reliability of each. Results of the differences between cross-lagged panel correlations and of the consistency of them for 2,429 students within the first eight grades suggested that attitudes toward mathematics is causally predominant over mathematics achievement for what variance is shared in common. (Author/GK)

Instruments were developed to measure the confidence and self-image of preservice elementary school teachers in relation to both biology and physical science. High reliability and convergent and discriminant validity were displayed by the instruments, both in the initial test development stage and in subsequent confirmatory studies. (Author)

A 20-item scale, based upon the Estes Reading Attitude Scale, was constructed to measure elementary students' attitudes toward reading. Results supported its reliability and validity for third, fourth, and fifth graders. (The scale is included). (JKS)

Data from 196 Irish school children were analyzed and used to develop a shortened version of the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitudes Scales (E. Fennema and J. Sherman, 1976). Internal consistency estimates of the reliability of scores on the whole scale and each of the subscales of the original and short form were favorable. (SLD)
