The ability of three measures to predict teaching employment was examined: National Teacher Examinations; Education in the Elementary School Specialty Area Test; and supervisors' ratings of student teachers, Student Teacher Rating Form (STRF). Factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis of the Educators Survey, an inventory to assess teacher burnout, for scores from 133 beginning elementary and secondary school teachers support a 3-factor structure. The level of construct validity of the instrument is considered promising for assessing teacher burnout. (SLD)

Correlations of National Teacher Examination (NTE) Core Battery scores and college grade point average (GPA) with a measure of teaching effectiveness for 493 first-year teachers indicate that the correlation is higher for GPA than for the Core Battery. NTE core scores do not predict effectiveness better than GPA alone. (SLD)
