Lin, Lin; Ross, Haj; O'Connor, Brian; Spector, J. Michael
Educational Technology, v55 n5 p35-39 Sep-Oct 2015
An interdisciplinary approach from linguistics, information sciences, learning sciences, and educational technology is used to explore the concept of information. Several key issues are highlighted, including: (1) learning language through meaning or probability; (2) the situational difference between message and meaning; (3) relationship between beliefs and information; (4) the hours necessary to build mastery, competency, or expertise; and (5) the importance of ethics and wisdom in the world of big data and new technologies. Intentionality, fit for purpose, and time are discussed as contributing factors for the formation and passages of information.
