Shkodriani, Gina
Education Commission of the States
There is growing consensus among education reformers that professional development is at the center of education reform and instructional improvement. Teachers need to keep up with the changes in their subject field and developments in current practices and policies. Community colleges can meet the needs of new professional development strategies by addressing the inflexibility and inconvenience of other programs. The local nature of community colleges can better serve schools with limited access to opportunities offered in other venues. Costs to local schools and districts can be reduced by using community college facilities for the development and delivery of professional development
