An "Every"-Day Approach to Teaching Number Facts
Thiele, Catherine; Dole, Shelley; Carmichael, Peter
Australian Primary Mathematics Classroom, v26 n2 p9-13 2021
Number fact knowledge spans far beyond conventional automatic mastery practices involving rote learning. Having the ability to automatically recall number facts fluently does not mean students will have strong conceptual understanding. This article provides suggestions for how number fact thinking and fluency might be developed in primary classrooms through making number fact learning an every-day activity. The authors discuss a number of proven strategies for the development of number facts that they argue should occur daily.
