The Next Chapter: Altered Bookmaking Art Therapy for Caregivers in Pediatric Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant
Crowley Ciucci, Abbien; Heffner-Solimeo, Hope
Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, v35 n2 p94-98 2018
This brief report discusses an art therapy group for parents and caregivers of pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Acknowledging the nuances of the caregiving experience, The Next Chapter uses altered bookmaking as a supportive intervention for parents and caregivers during inpatient hospitalizations. Parents and caregivers including grandparents, older siblings, and extended family members are invited to participate in the biweekly group as a way to encourage meaningful reflections and connections. This process provides a structured, creative space to promote expression and enhance perceived social support.
