Learning Style Profile: Examiner's Manual.
Keefe, James W.; Monk, John S.
This examiner's manual accompanies the Learning Style Profile (LSP), which measures cognitive skills as well as affective and environmental preferences. Charles Letteri's General Operations Model was accepted as the prototype for relating learning styles to cognitive information processing. The LSP was developed from 1983 to 1986; several versions were administered and factor analyzed. The final draft of 126 items was administered to a national normative sample of 5,154 students in grades 6 to 12. Results of test reliability studies were acceptable for a test of this length. Concurrent validity was examined using the Group Embedded Figures Test, the Edmonds Learning Style Identification Exercise, and the Learning Style Inventory. Results were generally acceptable, as were indications of face, content, and construct validity. Factor analysis resulted in 23 scales: analytic, spatial, discrimination, categorizing, sequential processing, and memory skill; visual, auditory, and emotive perceptual response; persistence and verbal risk orientation; verbal-spatial, manipulative, grouping, posture, mobility, sound, lighting, and temperature preference; and study time preference (early morning, late morning, afternoon, or evening). This manual contains directions for administering the test; scoring and interpreting instructions; normative data; terms of use; and order forms. (GDC)
