Applying the Structure of the Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO) Taxonomy on Student's Learning Outcomes: An Empirical Study.
Chan, Charles C.; Tsui, M. S.; Chan, Mandy Y. C.; Hong, Joe H.
Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, v27 n6 p511-27 Dec 2002
Using analyses of essay papers and classroom discussion responses, compared different educational taxonomies for measuring students' cognitive learning outcomes: Structure of the Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO), Bloom's taxonomy, and a reflective thinking measurement model. Found that SOLO is suitable for measuring different kinds of learning outcomes, but finer categorization of SOLO levels did not eradicate the problem of SOLO's conceptual ambiguity. (EV)
