Serving as an introduction to the various resources currently available in the National Archives and Records Service for geographic study of Native Americans, this paper describes the arrangement of National Archives records, identifies the major records pertaining to Native Americans, and presents an annotated bibliography of pertinent published finding aids. Presenting nearly 100 citations (1949-1975), the bibliography includes ordering information and is ordered via divisions and branches in the National Archives organization as follows: (1) General (comprehensive guides, microfilm publications, and conference papers); (2) Civil Archives (general; natural resources branch; industrial and social branch; diplomatic branch; and legislative, judicial, and fiscal branch); (3) Military Archives (general; Adjutant General's Office; U.S. Army Continental Commands, 1821-1920); (4) Audiovisual Archives (general and selected records); (5) Cartographic Archives (general; Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA); Bureau of Land Management; Office of the Secretary of the Interior; Bureau of Census; Soil Conservation Service; and other); (6) General Archives (general, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. General Accounting Office); (7) Center for Polar Archives (general); and (8) Regional Archives Branches (general and BIA).
